Barcelona set to try lure Manchester United forward with iconic No 10 shirt

Barcelona are ready to offer Mason Greenwood the iconic No 10 shirt, previously worn by Lionel Messi, as part of a reported £40million summer transfer swoop.

The Manchester United forward is attracting lots of attention in Spain following his loan move to La Liga side Getafe.

It is unlikely that Greenwood will ever play for United again due to his questionable behaviour off the pitch, but Getafe have already made it clear they will be trying to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

The biggest problem Getafe face is competition from bigger Spanish clubs, including Atletico Madrid. Greenwood has helped them climb to eight in the table with five goals and four assists across all competitions.

It goes without saying that Getafe will be unable to compete in the transfer market with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

According to The Sun, Barcelona are planning a £40m bid which includes that legendary No 10 jersey.

Since Messi’s exit in August 2021, the No 10 shirt has been worn by Ansu Fati, who is currently on loan at Brighton. Barcelona could now use the shirt to lure Greenwood away from Getafe as well as Atletico Madrid.

Greenwood will hope that he can force United into a change of mind about his future at the club, but that is extremely unlikely.
