Atletico Madrid make contact with Manchester United over Mason Greenwood

Mason Greenwood has been subject to increased speculation over the last few weeks. The 22-year-old is impressing at Getafe and now it sounds like some of the biggest clubs in Spain are considering a swoop for the forward next summer.

I don’t think Greenwood will play for United again, and I honestly don’t think he should, but that is a decision for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos to make in the coming months.

Some fans may want Greenwood back, but I’d argue that a strong majority of match-going fans never want to see him put on the shirt again.

Getafe have made it clear they would like to sign Greenwood on a permanent deal when his loan stint at the club comes to an end. They don’t have the same financial strength as the biggest clubs in Spain and will struggle to compete for Greenwood’s signature if the interest in his signature intensifies.

Estadio Deportivo claim Atletico Madrid are one of the clubs interested in Greenwood, and first contacts are reported to have taken place between the player’s representatives and Andrea Berta, the club’s Sporting Director.

Atleti could also face competition from Barcelona for Greenwood’s signature. As far as United are concerned, we’ll be hoping for a bidding war to ensure the club can make the best profit possible from selling a player that has already been pushed away at Old Trafford.
