New Year Honours: Manchester United and Lioness goalkeeper to recieve MBE

Manchester United and Lioness goalkeeper Mary Earps are among the big names on the latest New Year Honours list.

Earps, a World Cup hero, becomes an MBE for services to football (via Sky News) after playing a key role in England’s World Cup campaign, where they finished runners-up to Spain earlier this year.

Her Lioness team-mates Millie Bright and Lauren Hemp also received honours – an OBE and MBE respectively.

Earps was recently crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year, so this caps off what has been a tremendous year for the goalkeeper. Those who follow the Manchester United women’s team will also hope 2024 is the year she puts pen to paper over a new deal rather than leave the club as a free agent.

She won the Golden Glove award at the World Cup and was one of England’s most important players in the run to the final.

Congratulations to Earps!
