It is likely that Joel Glazer will withdraw plans to be part of the panel that oversees sporting matters at Manchester United.
That has long been the case since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25% buy-in became a real possibility.
Ineos are set to take control of the football side of the club, according to The Times. The report says the drawn-out process of Ratcliffe’s arrival is due to legal matters amid discussions about how the sporting and commercial sections of the club will be split.
The panel was supposed to be made up of Ratcliffe, Joel Glazer and Sir Dave Brailsford. However, it is now understood that Joel Glazer may now have no involvement in the sporting side whatsoever. That can only be good news.
Although it’s far from ideal that the Glazer family will own a majority of the club, it’s a big positive for Ratcliffe that there’s a chance he won’t have to deal with Joel Glazer so much.
At least on sporting matters, which will allow Ineos to do whatever they feel is right for the club without him getting in the way.
Hopefully there’s some truth in this report.
