Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United want backup striker in January

The lack of goals at Manchester United this season is pitiful.

Manchester United were beaten for the 13th time this season at the London Stadium on Saturday. The weekend went from bad to worse with more injury/illness blows, another terrible result and an attacking trio that look like they’re playing in three different teams.

There has been calls for investment in the transfer market when the window opens in January, with Sevilla frontman Youssef En-Nesyri the latest name to be linked with the club.

The links come at a time that United’s goal-less run of league games is their worst in the Premier League era, and worst since 1990.

However, only time will tell if there is any truth in the En-Nesyri links. The 26-year-old has nine goals to his name this season and it goes without saying that we are in desperate need of more strikers.

No bids for En-Nesyri

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has this morning poured cold water over the En-Nesyri claims for now, at least, in his latest Caught Offside newsletter.

Romano wrote: “I haven’t heard anything regarding a Man United move for Youssef En-Nesyri as of now. Names I’ve mentioned in the past are Donyell Malen, Serhou Guirassy and Timo Werner because I’m aware that Man United spoke to their representatives.

“I’m also sure the race is still open and nothing has been decided. I do see Man United signing a backup striker, but this doesn’t change their trust in Rasmus Hojlund for the present and future.”
