‘Not sure I’m allowed’: Klopp tries to aim thinly-veiled dig at United three days on from Anfield stalemate

Jurgen Klopp is seemingly still writhing at the fact Liverpool were unable to score against one of the most under-performing Manchester United sides in years.

Three days on from Sunday’s stalemate at Anfield, it’s still on Klopp’s mind. So much so that he felt the need to bring it up after his side booked their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

In truth, United did indeed play cautiously and mostly in their own half, with the backline overseeing one of their best performances of the term by stopping each and every Liverpool attack.

Funnily enough, there aren’t many teams – especially those that are out-of-form –  that would head to Merseyside planning to just sit back and let their opponents walk the ball into the back of the net, though it seems like that’s what Klopp was expecting.

Rather than analysing their own inadequacies on the night, Virgil van Dijk and Klopp went on to criticise United for how they set up in the game, after Liverpool squandered their chance to move top of the Premier League table.

Tonight, the German couldn’t help but namecheck United again, telling the media after Liverpool’s quarter-final victory (as cited by Lewis Steele): “Things clicked tonight. Couple of things didn’t on Sunday. United defended… I’m not sure I’m allowed to talk about what they did!”
