Manchester United and Lioness star nominated for Sports Personality of the Year award

The shortlist for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2023 have been revealed and the contenders include Manchester United and Lioness star Mary Earps.

Over the last seven decades the public has decided who its sporting heroes are, which will be the same again this year for a live show on Tuesday 19 December.

The event will take place live from Media City with a host of presenters including Clare Blading, Gary Lineker, Gabby Logan and Alex Scott. All of them will be challenged with reflecting back on an action-packed year of sport.

Earps will be competing for Sports Personality of the Year 2023 with Stuart Broad, Frankie Dettori, Alife Hewett, Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Rory McIlroy.

However, there will be seven other awards handed out on the night.

Those awards include:

  • World Sport Star of the Year
  • Helen Rollason Award
  • Young Sports Personality of the Year
  • Unsung Hero
  • Coach of the Year
  • Team of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement award
