Gareth Southgate will try persuade Manchester United youngster to represent England

Kobbie Mainoo is attracting lots of attention after his impressive first start in the Premier League on Sunday.

Manchester United swept past Everton to secure a 3-0 win to continue United’s winning run in the league.

The win will be remembered for Alejandro Garnacho’s remarkable overhead kick, which has drawn comparisons to Wayne Rooney’s goal against Man City in 2011.

While Garnacho took all the headlines, Mainoo was the best player on the pitch after being thrown into the deep end at Goodison Park. That didn’t stop him being a calm presence in the middle of the pitch, playing like a midfielder beyond his years.

According to the Daily Star, England are targeting United wonderkid Mainoo to keep him out of the clutches of Ghana.

Mainoo has represented England at U17, U18 and u19 levels. However, Mainoo is still elligble to play for Ghana through his parents.

Gareth Southgate is believed to be desperate to see Mainoo pleged his international career to the Three Lions instead of Ghana.

In turn, Southgate is expected to hold talks with the midfielder with the aim of persuading him to stick with the country of his birth.

There’s even talk of Mainoo being fast-tracked into Lee Carsley’s England U21 squad to speed up the process.

Mainoo put in a man of the match display against Everton on Sunday, although the award went for Alejandro Garnacho after his stunning overhead kick in the first-half.
