David de Gea could link up with ex-Liverpool captains in January move after United release

David de Gea is seemingly enjoying life away from the spotlight following his Manchester United release in July.

The Spaniard bid farewell to Old Trafford after his 12-year stay between the sticks came to an end when his contract expired.

It came after a season in which De Gea had come under fire for his performances, overseeing numerous errors leading to goals or costly mistakes. Nevertheless, it shouldn’t be forgotten that for a period of his career, he was undoubtedly the best goalkeeper in world football and saved United’s results on countless occasions.

Andre Onana was sought to succeed the No.1 role in De Gea’s absence and Altay Bayindir now plays second-fiddle on the bench.  Meanwhile, the Reds legend is still without a club.

De Gea tipped for Saudi payday

That could all be about to change when the transfer window opens in the New Year, as according to The Sun, Saudi Pro League sides have set their sights on De Gea and will be looking to sway him towards the Middle East.

Al-Ettifaq, managed by ex-Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard, are eyeing a deal for De Gea and it’d see him link up with former Premier League players Jordan Henderson, Demarai Gray and Georginio Wijnaldum.
