Donny van de Beek pushing for Manchester United exit to play regular football

It is no secret that Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek will be looking for a new club in January.

The Dutch midfielder insists he has no regrets about signing for United in 2020, despite making just six Premier League starts since then.

Van de Beek was signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but he has failed to find his feet under his former Ajax coach Erik ten Hag, too. Injuries haven’t helped but it also seems like Van de Beek is not best suited to English football, after struggling during a loan spell at Everton under Frank Lampard.

The Netherlands international has managed just two substitute appearances this season.

Speaking about his future, Van de Beek made it clear that he misses playing football, as quoted by The Mirror: “I am bouncing to play matches again. The manager is making different choices now. We have a big squad and I am not the only one knocking on the door. We’ll see in January what happens.

“I need to start playing games very soon – if not at Man United then at another club. I think I have to be ambitious.

“I have always been a lover of the game. I am absolutely crazy about football. I earn a good living at United, but money is not my motivation. I want to enjoy my work every day.”

Van de Beek had lots of potential when he arrived from a successful Ajax side that won a Dutch double in 2019, and he played a key role in their march to the Champions League semi-finals before getting knocked out by Tottenham Hotspur.

Van de Beek added: “Last season I was sidelined for months due to my knee injury. You miss it terribly. I appreciate even more that I have a fabulous job. I am at a legendary club and I am still proud every day to wear the Manchester United shirt.

“But I am bursting with energy now that I am top fit again and I am really training like an animal. The time has come to make a different choice.”

Van de Beek has been linked with a move to Turkey in recent weeks, but that comes after much speculation during the summer.
