Erik ten Hag is unaware of speculation surrounding Raphael Varane’s future at Manchester United.
The former France international has been overlooked in recent matches for Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof and that has led to speculation over a potential move to Bayern Munich or Saudi Arabia.
There has also been suggestions that Varane’s relationship with Ten Hag was after breaking down.
Even with Evans injured this week, there is a chance Varane could be overlooked again for Lindelof. Maguire is expected to start his ninth consecutive game for United and nobody saw that as a possibility in the summer.
Ten Hag was asked about Varane’s future for the first time at this evening’s press conference. The Dutchman said (via Manchester Evening News): “Rapha Varane: I don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s rumours. Very important player, but there’s internal competition and there should be at a top club, as we are.
“And when you decide on two players who do brilliant – Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire – you also have to make a choice for that position.”
While we can all see that United have problems in defence, mostly due to injuries, we also have a problem scoring goals.
Varane is under contract at United until 2025 and the club has the option of an additional year.
However, while I think a move in January is unlikely, I wouldn’t be surprised if Varane moved on next summer.
Let us know in the comment section if you think United should sell Varane in January?
