Chris Sutton claims Manchester United have been ‘awful’ despite good Premier League form

Chris Sutton believes Manchester United have been awful despite being the Premier League’s most in-form side at the moment.

Footballer turned pundit, Sutton, criticised Manchester United’s performances this season after winning four of their last five league matches.

The Reds have beaten Brentford, Sheffield United, Fulham and Luton Town in those matches but it was narrow margins in each fixture.

While United’s form has picked up, Erik ten Hag’s side has suffered nine defeats already this season – conceding 30 goals and scoring 25. Injuries have made it harder for the manager to implement his preferred style of play, but we’ve got Luke Shaw returning to the matchday squad on Sunday.

Speaking to BBC Sport’s Chris Bevan (h/t BBC), Sutton said that United have been awful despite the positive results recently: “Result-wise, Manchester United have been doing better than anyone, with four wins in their past five league games, but if you have seen them play this season you will know they have mostly been awful.”

It’s worth noting that Sutton very rarely has anything positive to say about United, but that doesn’t mean he’s wrong. Ask any United fan and they’ll tell you they haven’t beem impressed by our performances this term.

United travel to Goodison Park on Sunday to take on Everton, who are hoping to respond to a 10-point deduction inflicted by the Premier League.
