Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag needs to be reckless when it comes to getting rid of players he doesn’t want part of his squad.
I don’t think the Dutchman got rid of all of the players he wanted to in the summer, but hopefully when Sir Jim Ratcliffe arrives we’ll see United behave like a proper football club again.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the outgoings list at United is likely to break double figures across the winter and summer transfer windows in 2024.
A number of players will see their contracts expire at the end of the season, including Jonny Evans, and it remains to be seen if United will extend the deals of full-backs Brandon Williams and Alvaro Fernandez, both whom are on loan this term.
However, Sweden international Victor Lindelof recently stated that he expects to be given a one-year contract at United.
The report adds that Ten Hag will be looking to sign a new centre-back and that could lead to the departure of another defender. Harry Maguire was linked with move away in the summer, although he has since found himself back in the team.
Another defender linked with an exit from United is former Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
There is also a suggestion that United could release Anthony Martial rather than extend his deal by another year as there is little resale value and no market to sell the Frenchman. Furthermore, he no longer plays like someone trying to resurrect their career.
Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho will both be transfer listed in January. The Dutchman midfielder has played just 21 minutes this season and Sancho has been banished from all first-team activities following a public falling out with Ten Hag.
