Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar has responded to Altay Bayindir on social media.
Erik ten Hag brought Bayindir to Old Trafford in the summer and he’s took the role as Andre Onana’s backup.
The Turkey international recently named Edwin van der Sar as one of his favourite goalkeepers, but the Dutchman’s response could be seen as brutal, but at least it opens dialogue for them to have a chat in the future.
Van der Sar insists in his reply that he is a bigger fan of Onana – which, in all honesty, shouldn’t come as a surprise since the Cameroonian is United’s first choice keeper.
Ten Hag knew Onana from his time at Ajax and decided he was the keeper he wanted to replace David de Gea in the summer. But there was another keeper signing, while Dean Henderson left Old Trafford for Crystal Palace.
However, Bayindir has yet to make his debut for United.
The Turk gave an interview to club media recently where he revealed that Van der Sar was his favourite United keeper in the past. Bayindir said: “My favourite goalkeeper for Manchester United when I was younfer, I watched a lot of games of Manchester United, and my favourite goalkeeper, I say this and Edwin van der Sar is a legend, I know him.”

United shared the video on Instagram, where Van der Sar replied: “Hi Altay, will see you soon in Manchester and we will have a chat about goalkeeping but my favourite is still Andre as you will know!”
All Bayindir can do is take his opportunities when they come, if he wants to prove Van der Sar and others wrong about his ability. The Turkey international could make his debut this weekend should Onana fail a late fitness test.
Furthermore, United may need to depend on Bayindir during the African Cup of Nations, which could see Onana pre-occupied from January to February.
