Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof showed his class last night when he surrendered the Sweden captaincy for their 2-0 win over Estonia.

It was their final Euro 2024 qualifier and the centre-back made the decision to award the captain’s armband to teammate Albin Ekdal, who was earning his 70th and final cap for his country before international retirement.

This is a player Lindelof has spent most of his international career with, so it was a heartfelt gesture from the United defender.

Although Sweden missed out on Euro 2024 qualification, Lindelof was hailed by national press after Sunday night’s win against Estonia.

Aftonbladet praised Lindelof and suggested he ‘still acted like a captain’ despite not wearing the armband.

“Had given up the captain’s armband go Albin Ekdal but still acted like a captain. Went hard in a few melees early on to make sure there was no repeat of the misery in Baku,” the Swedish outlet wrote. Meanwhile, Fotbollskanalen felt he was ‘very stable’ at the back which is something we need to see against Everton if he starts at Goodison Park this weekend.
