Manchester United scouting 20 y/o RB Leipzig centre-back

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to buy a minority stake at Manchester United before taking control of football operations at the club. In turn, there will be changes in the recruitment department and we are likely to see new transfer targets as a result.

According to German publication Bild, Manchester United are continuing to scout RB Leipzig centre-back Castello Lukeba, despite the 20-year-old only joining the Bundesliga outfit in the summer.

That is enough to suggest that the former Lyon defender has hit the ground running at his new club, but it’s not the first time the French starlet has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

It is believed that United showed an interest in signing Lukeba in the summer but they didn’t bid against Leipzig for his signature, which saw him switch France for Germany instead of Manchester.

Lukeba’s contract at Leipzig runs until 2028 and he was brought in to replace Man City centre-back Josko Gvardiol.

United have missed out on a number of bright talents in recent years due to a poor recruitment strategy. Ed Woodward thought he had what it took to run the biggest club in the world, and then we had a brief spell of Richard Arnold along with John Murtough.

While Arnold has announced that he will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the year, we fully expect Murtough to follow him out the door. They will not be part of Ratcliffe’s plans moving forward.
