Pundit questions Erik ten Hag’s future as Manchester United manager

Former Premier League midfielder turned pundit Jermaine Jenas doesn’t believe Erik ten Hag is the right manager to take Manchester United forward.

The main reason for that seems to be Ten Hag’s approach to recruitment, which, whether he likes it or not, has been handed to his preferred agency SEG. Ten Hag obviously prefers this arrange to having John Murtough or Richard Arnold calling the shots, but I am sure every manager would like the best in class recruitment team behind them.

Jenas, who often works as a pundit on Match of the Day, has doubts that Ten Hag has what it takes to be a success at Old Trafford. He doesn’t think the Dutchman is ‘good enough’.

“I don’t see players who have chucked the towel in, I just see players who don’t know what to do,” Jenas told talkSPORT. “There’s no cohesion. I don’t think he’s [Ten Hag] good enough. I’ve not seen anything in his style of management that makes me think he’s the right man to take them in the right direction.

“I can’t see what his plan is based on the players he is buying – that’s a big one for me. All he’s buying is what he knows rather than what is good for Manchester United.”

In Ten Hag’s defence, we can’t overlook how badly the squad has been hit by injuries this season. That has had a huge impact in our slow start to the season, getting knocked out of the Carabao Cup and being on the verge of going out of Europe.

The fans are still in Ten Hag’s corner and I don’t hear Jenas having any hot takes on Chelsea’s managerial situation.

  1. Whoever the guy has bought his judgement has to be held up to the overpriced, over hyped signing of Anthony – a €10m signing if ever I saw one. Ten Hag plays favourites and cannot consider his players or tactics. He is vengeful. He has to go!

    1. Think a lot of the team are suffering right now. Finger pointing from Ten Hag – when it’s players he has available – would be a daft move, surely?

  2. Who is JJ and what has he ever achieved to be able to have this opinion. There is enough evidence available to see how many games he has won, and when you think to how much change needed to take place when he came in (similar to Sir Alex), he has still some way to go. But we’ve got to stop this nonsense of assuming the absolute right to be winning titles. We have to earn them! And it takes time and money, and support from fans. Let’s get our heads down, forget the hype, and just keep working. We will get there when we deserve it. But we have to have the right players playing for him, in the right way, and that takes time to happen. Let’s quit this instant gratification nonsense. That’s just money talking, and we don’t have that either.

  3. How much longer do we have to endure this snore fest that ETH produced I cannot wait for him to leave personality of a robot and just seems to rinse and repeat the same old dross , I agree with jennas he should leave and his signings can go too , it’s too hard to watch them at the moment embarrassing 1-0 wins my god it’s like watching arsenal years ago not the United I want to see .
