Erik ten Hag demands discussion with PGMOL over VAR issues

Erik ten Hag has called for Premier League managers to hold a collective discussion with PGMOL on VAR.

VAR controversies have been happening on a weekly basis this season and it feels like Manchester United have been one of the unluckiest teams for questionable decisions.

For example, in United’s last two games against Fulham and FC Copenhagen, Ten Hag was well within his rights to have his own complaints about the decisions going against his team.

The Dutchman took issue with Marcus Rashford’s red card as well as Copenhagen’s first two goals.

When asked by MUTV if he was growing frustrated with the number of decisions going against United, Ten Hag said (via ManUtd.com): “Yes but I think as managers collectively, we have to talk with the PGMOL to improve football and togetherness and find solutions and togetherness. Not debate it in public.”

This is, of course, a different approach to Arsenal and Liverpool. Both clubs issued statements after bad decisions and had apologies from PGMOL.

An apology in this sense is meaningless if it keeps happening every week, which is why I couldn’t care less about the fact United have yet to receive one from the questionable referee association.

  1. VAR has been used to swing match results according to referees wishes. Maybe betting has some effect on it

  2. Maybe FIFA and leagues should allow 2 VAR challenges per team in a game like they do in NFL football and NBA basketball. Also a time limit to review of 1 minute. Otherwise let referee’s referee. FIFA and leagues want PERFECTION in a sport that has imperfections!
