Manchester United fans announce plans for anti-Glazer protest ahead of Luton Town clash

There are fresh plans for anti-Glazer protests ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Luton Town.

Manchester United fan group The 1958 have announced plans for another anti-Glazer protest on Saturday. The main message will be to remove their total involvement with the club in response to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s attempts to acquire 25% of the club.

It is believed Ratcliffe has long-term plans to take total control of United, but he will initially work with the Glazers rather than replacing them. That presumably means having to deal with Joel and Avram Glazer because the other siblings have done little but take dividends down the years.

While there’s belief the change in ownership is a step in the right direction, with Ratcliffe getting his foot in the door, but The 1958 have made it clear they won’t be happy until the Glazers are no longer involved with the club.

The fan group are asking supporters to gather for a peaceful protest at the North West Quadrant at 2pm ahead of Saturday’s 3pm kick-off.

Spokesperson Steve Crompton has explained that demonstrations were recently paused due to the passing of Sir Bobby Charlton.

“We believe the last 12 months has proved beyond any doubt that the Glazers only care about one thing; cold hard cash. They are not fit ton be custodians of one of the world’s most iconic football institutions. But they cannot buy the love we hold for OUR club,” Crompton said in a statement, as cited by the Manchester Evening News.

“We call on supporters around the world to stand united with us, at Old Trafford on Saturday and also via our website http://claimbackunited.the1958.net.”

The fan group echo our concerns about the club’s debt and how match-going fans are being marginalised in favour of corporate hospitality.

“The fight remains in full force,” the statement added. “There was a natural impasse to reflect the sad passing of Sir Bobby but we will never give up until the greedy Glazers have been removed from out club in their entirety.

“Let there be no doubt. The fight is not over. In many ways it’s only just begun.”
