Copenhagen defender confident in causing Manchester United upset in crunch UCL clash

Copenhagen’s Kevin Diks is certainly feeling confident heading into Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Manchester United.

The two sides first encountered on October 24 at Old Trafford, with the game proving crucial for the Red Devils, who were on the back of two straight defeats in their opening group-stage matches.

Harry Maguire’s 72nd-minute header broke the deadlock but it was Andre Onana’s last-gasp penalty heroics, in which he denied Jordan Larsson from the spot in injury time, that saw United clinch all three points in the must-win outing.

Given the current standings in the group, United will be well aware that anything less than a win in Denmark on Wednesday would see them kiss goodbye to their hopes of progression to the knock-outs.

Danes confident of United upset

Despite ultimately losing the game, Copenhagen will hold the belief that they can cause an upset to the travelling Reds this time out. They were outstanding in the first meeting and now, boast a stadium packed with their faithful supporters.

Diks gave his verdict on the fixture while speaking to Tipsbladet, saying: “We are the favourites when we have the fans behind us at Parken. I’m not saying that we are always favourites against them [United], but we showed last time what we can do against them, and we are in a good place. So with our game plan, we can make it difficult for everyone at Parken.

“Of course, it’s not the same United team as it was under Ferguson, it’s been like that for a long time. They are rebuilding, and it takes time. You can also see it in the results. This game has its own dynamics. It’s the Champions League, and anything can happen.”
