Manchester United continue their Carabao Cup defence on Wednesday evening with a repeat of last season’s final against Newcastle United.
The Red Devils will be on home turf again this week, which they’ll be looking to use to their advantage when they vie with the threatening Magpies. It’s a short turnaround from Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, with United displaying nothing short of a lacklustre and soulless fight – something that must be rectified in the coming fixtures.
After watching the derby, you could certainly make strong cases for several players to be dropped from the starting 11 tomorrow night, though whether or not Erik ten Hag will take such a stance remains to be seen.
United team news
In terms of his selection options, Casemiro’s availability remains a question mark. He has missed the past three games through a mixture of injury and suspension, but would likely come straight back into the fold if he passes the required fitness tests.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been training with the first team after a six-week layoff and could make the matchday squad in what would come as a significant boost to the team.
Kobbie Mainoo made the bench at the weekend for the first time this term after he sustained a knee injury during the pre-season tour. When asked about his inclusion pre-match, Ten Hag said there is still a ‘way to go’ for the young prospect but added that ‘for part of the game, he is ready’ so presumably, he’s more likely to feature in a late cameo than start from the offset.
Amad Diallo was spotted back on the grass doing some individual training work at Carrington on Monday morning, but the Carabao Cup clash will come too early for him.
Oh, bring at home is an advantage, is it?
Well that’s alright then.
Looking forward to see who we get in the next round.🤪
