Mary Earps nominated for BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year

Already a hero for her Euro-winning exploits, Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps is now regarded as one of the world’s best women’s goalkeepers.

Fans from across the world are invited to vote for their BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year for 2023 here, and we are delighted to see Earps as a candidate on the five-player shortlist. A deadline for voting has been set for 9am on Tuesday, 28 November.

The shortlist consists of Aitana Bonmati, Sam Kerr, Alexandra Pope, Fridolina Rolfo and Earps. Previous winners include Beth Mead, Asisat Oshoala, Vivianne Miedema, Lucy Bronze, Kim Little and Ada Hegerberg.

Earps was ever-present as Sarina Wingman’s side reached the World Cup final this time around, although they were defeated by Spain. She also enjoyed a strong WSL campaign as the Reds finished third and reached the FA Cup final.

Despite links to Arsenal in the summer, Earps remained at United. Hopefully she signs a new deal and commits her long-term future to the club.

Earps and co suffered a blow last week as United crashed out of the Champions League after losing the second leg of their qualifier against Paris-Saint Germain.
