FC Copenhagen manager Jacob Neestrup says his players will be proud to pay their respects to Sir Bobby Charlton when a pre-match tribute is held in his honour.
Sir Bobby passed away on Saturday morning before the Reds recorded a 2-1 win over Sheffield United in the Premier League, thanks to goals from Scott McTominay and Diogo Dalot.
Neestrup told reporters (via Daily Mail): “He was a great player for England and Manchester United for many, many years, and after his playing career he was a big influence on Manchester United.
“We as a team and players want to honour him in the stadium tomorrow.”
United go into Tuesday night’s Champions League match against FC Copenhagen needing a win if we’ve got any chance of reaching the knockout phase.
Otherwise United are dropping into the Europa League or, even worse, out of Europe completely.
Copenhagen visit Old Trafford in the same boat, yet to record a win in the Champions League this season. Moreover, manager Neestrup is not looking too much into United’s form this season because he is aware of the players Erik ten Hag possesses.
“We have to get a result tomorrow, whether they’ve won in their last 10 matches or been up and down like they have been in the last couple of months,” the Copenhagen manager added.
“We have to play our game. There will be times when we have to defend heavily and we are ready for that but we also have to get on the ball, play with patience and make sure we keep the ball. We plan to take risks at the right times.”
