Erik ten Hag expresses condolences after terrorist attack in Brussels

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expressed his condolences to the victims and families of those effected after a terrorist attack in Brussels on Monday.

Ahead of a Euro 2024 qualifier between Belgium and Sweden, a man shot and killed two Swedes and injured a third in Brussels.

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof was involved in the match which was halted at half-time due to the attack. For their own safety, supporters were in the stadium for hours before being led away by police escorts that had been arranged for them.

Following the horrific events, Lindelof took to social media and issued a heartfelt statement of his own. Now, Ten Hag has shared his thoughts with the people caught up in the tragedy.

The manager says Lindelof is ready to play against Sheffield United this weekend, although he added the defender was exhausted emotionally and physically when he returned to Manchester.

“It’s a terrible situation and I’m sad for the victims and the relatives, the family and friends of the victims there in Brussels,” said Ten Hag, as per Manchester Evening News.

“It’s a crazy world. Of course, Victor had a problem, it was a bad experience. With the Sweden national team, he is the captain, he had to stay in front and give statements, but he dealt with it.

“He’s exhausted after it. He didn’t sleep overnight, but he returned and yesterday he was back in training. He dealt with the situation. Our thoughts are with Victor, the victims’ relatives and the victims. Victor has energy and is ready to play this game.”

This will raise questions over whether Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans will start at centre-back when the Reds travel to Bramall Lane.
