Manchester United are reportedly losing ground in their pursuit of Royal Antwerp starlet Arthur Vermeeren.
The young Belgian midfielder has caught the eye of a number of Europe’s top clubs and it is believed that Barcelona have already conducted talks with the player.
Vermeeren supposedly met with Barca when Royal Antwerp faced the La Liga giants in the Champions League earlier this season.
United are also thought to be tracking Vermeeren but, as per SPORT, Arsenal are now leading the way to sign the talented 18-year-old.
Moreover, it is suggested that Arsenal could move for the youngster in January.
It is difficult for United to make early moves for players while uncertainty remains over the future of the club, however, news emerged over the weekend that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is on the verge of buying a 25% stake from the Glazer family.
If that gets done quickly, which I highly doubt will be the case, United may be able to catch up in the race for Vermeeren if Erik ten Hag wants to sign the player.
