Harry Maguire is expected to start tonight for England when they take on Italy in their Euro 2024 qualifier.
As per the Daily Mail, Gareth Southgate will ‘resist the temptation’ of playing Marc Guehi and instead deploy Maguire for the 7.45pm clash.
In the last international break, the Crystal Palace defender started both matches against Ukraine and Scotland respectively. In the former, he partnered Maguire but now that John Stones has returned from injury, it’s likely he’ll start from the get-go.
It’s a headache that any manager would be lucky to have in terms of selection, with the likes of Fikayo Tomori and Lewis Dunk also in fine form this season.
Maguire’s start to the season at Old Trafford
The former Manchester United captain has not been granted frequent game time at club level for a second consecutive campaign; he has started two games in total – one in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup – and has featured in a further two as a substitute. Maguire is yet to play a minute of Champions League action.
