Eredivisie superstar backed to join Real Madrid or Manchester United

Manchester United have been on the hunt for a long-term striker option for several years and Erik ten Hag finally got his man through the doors at Carrington earlier this summer.

After he filled the position with stop-gap solutions in his maiden campaign at Old Trafford, Ten Hag brought Rasmus Hojlund to the club from Atalanta.

The young Dane missed the first few games due to injury but since his debut, he has immediately endeared himself to supporters at Old Trafford and his performances are hardly hurting his popularity.

It’s fair to assume that Ten Hag is more than happy with Hojlund’s output two months into his Reds career but he remains the only reliable option up top.

It has been reported that United could yet look to sign another striker in January or in next summer’s transfer window and now, Eredivisie star Santiago Gimenez has been backed to potentially become one of the players United look at.

Gimenez made headlines earlier this season when he scored the longest hat-trick of all time, with over 24 hours separating the second and third goal after a game between Ajax and Feyenoord was abandoned.

Gimenez has scored 12 goals in just eight appearances for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie this season and now, Feyenoord legend Willem van Hanegem has claimed that he has the potential to join Real Madrid or Manchester United.

“He has the qualities to play at the absolute top, in England or Spain,” Van Hanegem said, according to the Manchester Evening News. “It would be great if he plays for Real Madrid or Manchester United.

“He will only remain at Feyenoord for the time being. Everyone likes him very much; he doesn’t get nervous when he misses an opportunity.

“He doesn’t get desperate, for example, he could have made 15 or 16 (goals) already. That’s how you look at him, because he has those qualities.

“He doesn’t get stuck in it, that’s a sign that things are going well in his head. He remains calm, he knows he will be a top scorer.”

The 22-year-old is also a regular for his country, making 20 appearances for Mexico already and scoring four goals along the way.

It remains to be seen whether he keeps this outrageous goalscoring form up for the rest of the campaign and if he does, Europe’s elite clubs will be circling and United should be one of them.
