Scott McTominay was up to his old tricks again last night – scoring on the international stage for his country.
The Manchester United star played all 90 minutes for Scotland’s Euro 2024 qualifier vs Spain, in which they needed just a single point to book their place in next year’s tournament.
McTominay thought he did his bit when he fired home the opening goal, coming from a sensational free-kick that curled its way past Unai Simon to make it 1-0 – one we didn’t know he had in his locker!

However, it was later chalked off by VAR following the celebrations for a foul on the Spanish goalkeeper, leaving the Carrington graduate and his teammates bewildered and frustrated.
Upon further inspection, it’s even more unclear as to why the opener was disallowed.

Matters were made even worse for Steve Clarke’s side when they went on to concede two goals, meaning their qualification remains on hold.
Should McTominay’s goal have stood, he would’ve added to his superb tally of six goals in the competition’s qualifying stages.

Goal should have stood.
You can blame Scotland’s no. 13 for the goal being chalked off: he pushes the goalie as the ball comes across. Mebbe he’d not have reached it, but he wasn’t given the chance to try.
