Manchester United saw proposal for PSG starlet rejected in summer – report

Manchester United had a proposal rejected for Paris Saint-Germain starlet Xavi Simons in the summer, as per L’Equipe.

The Ligue 1 outfit opted to activate Simons’ release clause of €6 million in the recent transfer window, just one year after sanctioning his exit to PSV Eindhoven.

20-year-old Simons had enjoyed a scintillating campaign in the Netherlands, netting a remarkable 22 goals while contributing 12 assists in all competitions. With numbers like that, it’s clear to see why PSG were quick to act when his clause became active.

They have since decided to loan the youngster out to RB Leipzig, where he has already picked up three goals and four assists in 11 appearances. But prior to Simons’ move to the Bundesliga, he was the subject of a ‘big’ offer from the Red Devils.

Why PSG rejected all offers for Simons

Whilst the details of United’s proposal have not been revealed, they reportedly joined Leipzig in trying to prise the starlet from the Parisians, however, all bids were rebuffed as ‘it was stipulated that if Simons was sold before a certain date, which had not yet been reached, PSV would receive the fee, not PSG’ – GFFN states.
