Brazil manager confirms Casemiro injury concern after shock draw vs Venezuela

Erik ten Hag has been dealt a fresh headache as midfielder Casemiro asked to come off with an ankle problem in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela.

Manchester United have had to deal with a lot of injuries already this season. Although Casemiro hasn’t performed well this season, it still comes as a blow that he sustained a knock during Friday morning’s 1-1 draw with Venezuela.

According to Brazil head coach, Fernando Diniz, the 31-year-old suffered a blow to his ankle which forced him off after 79 minutes of action.

“As there was a stop (in play), I decided to make the three substitutions,” Diniz told Globe Esporte, as cited by Caught Offside.

“We had a lot of control when they came on. Casemiro asked to come off due to a blow to his ankle.”

Casemiro started the game alongside Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes in midfield. Now, there is bound to be question marks over the seriousness of the injury.

Will the Brazilian be fit to face Sheffield United after the international break? If not, does he return in time for the Copenhagen game or the Manchester derby?

There may be an international break planted in the middle of October, but it’s still an important month for United.

Casemiro has started every game for United so far this season.
