Sweden manager admits touch-and-go situation with Victor Lindelof

Sweden manager Janne Andersson has arranged a fitness assessment for Victor Lindelof ahead of the upcoming international matches.

The Manchester United defender was substituted in after 71 minutes on Saturday and went straight down the tunnel, which means they had initial fears about the injury he had just sustained.

Lindelof, 29, started the game at full-back which comes as a result of Erik ten Hag’s defence being depleted by injuries. The Dutchman doesn’t want anymore and he’ll be keep a close eye on his players during the international break.

However, when asked about Lindelof’s fitness, Sweden head coach Andersson told Aftonbladet: “I have had contact with Lindelof. Hopefully, there won’t be any major problems, but I don’t dare say that for sure. I do not have the medical team’s assessment, tonight I will find out exactly how it is.”

It sounds like a touch-and-go situation for Lindelof, but United fans will be hoping he isn’t put at risk by his country. He has struggled for form this season yet the same could be said for most of our defenders.

Sweden host Moldova on Saturday at 6pm, but then they travel to Belgium for a European Championship qualifier.
