Romano confirms Manchester United’s interest in Portuguese starlet as centre-back shortlist continues to grow

Manchester United have concrete interest in Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The Portugal international joins a shortlist of centre-back options that includes Antonio Silva, Jean-Clair Todibo and Edmond Tapsoba, with Erik ten Hag keen to bolster his options in either the winter or summer window.

It comes after United were plagued by injuries in the opening weeks of the campaign, with every player except Victor Lindelof missing a game through either illness or fitness issues. Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Lisandro Martinez are long-term absentees.

Raphael Varane also missed United’s last game vs Brentford due to a minor problem and whilst he’ll most likely return to action following the international break, his injury record is becoming increasingly concerning. The amount matches he’s missed since signing for the club in 2021 is far from ideal when he’s one of the manager’s first choices at centre half.

Inacio braced for interest

Inacio, 22, signed a new contract with Sporting in August that sees him stay with the side until 2027, however, a €60 million release clause was included. It’s likely that they’re anticipating interest from other top sides across Europe if the defender oversees another impressive season.
