It’s no secret that Manchester United have a lot of problems to fix.

Many of these problems are being magnified after a poor start to the season, with five wins and six losses in all competitions.

Ten Hag is feeling the pressure which slightly lifted over the weekend when United came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1. Still, fans are entitled to ask whether the result only covers up cracks within the team.

Meanwhile, anyone that knows the situation at Old Trafford will be aware of the fact a cultural reset is required. From top to bottom.

Former Premier League midfielder Robbie Mustoe, who played for Middlesbrough between 1990-2002, believes a total clearcut is required at Old Trafford.

Mustoe told NBC Sports’ Two Robbies podcast that major changes need to happen at the club, saying: “What this club needs is an absolute total strip down, every part of that football club, stripped down, ripped and start again.

“Strip it down from the top, a new chief executive, a new director of football, and from that, you have a new recruiting department.

“Whether Erik ten Hag could still be the main coach, yeah, maybe he can. But everything around him has to change.”

Of course, any chance of a total strip down will depend on the pending takeover. Sadly there are still doubts over whether the Glazers want to sell the club which only casts further doubt over the future of United.

New owners would likely mean the end of Richard Arnold and John Murtough at the club.

Mustoe added: “Eriksen, past his best, Casemiro, past his best, Varane, past his best. There’s so many things that are a result of wrong decisions.

“Strip it all out and start again. It can only happen if the ownership changes, and that needs to happen.”
