Former Manchester United captain among favourites for Rangers next manager role

Rangers are looking for a new manager following Sunday’s sacking of Michael Beale.

The Scottish giants lost 3-1 at home to Aberdeen on Saturday and Beale got the axe 24 hours later.

Rangers are currently third in the Scottish top-flight, winning four and losing three of their opening seven matches this season. They are also in the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup and got their Europa League campaign off to a winning start.

However, Rangers are demanding more in the league and have decided to part ways with Beale.

This has led to several candidates being tipped for the job at Ibrox, including former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder and ex-Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.

Former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter is seen as the main candidate, as per GlasgowWorld. Joining the 48-year-old on the list is former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney.

Rooney is currently in charge at MLS side DC United, although a return to the UK could be on the cards for the former England goalscorer.

The Scottish publication listed the current favourites for the Rangers job along with the odds from bookmakers:

  • Graham Potter: 3/1
  • Kevin Muscat: 4/1
  • Kjetil Knutsen: 5/1
  • Nathan Jones: 6/1
