David de Gea sends rallying message to Manchester United star after confirmation of injury setback

David de Gea has voiced his support for his former Manchester United teammate, Lisandro Martinez, after the defender’s recent injury setback.

The Argentine will be undergoing surgery this week to correct the metatarsal fracture that saw his 2022/2023 campaign end prematurely. It was thought that he had recovered in time for the current season, but the problem was re-aggravated in the opening fixtures and has consequently seen Martinez dealt an extended spell on the sidelines.

De Gea is well acquainted with Martinez from last term, as the centre-back was frequently deployed in front of the goalkeeper throughout his final year as a Red, in which he won the Premier League’s Golden Glove award.

De Gea voices support for Martinez

Currently, De Gea is still looking for a club since being released from United in the summer, but it’s clear that he’s still keeping tabs on the side since his 12-year stay came to an end.

He took to Instagram today to send a message to Martinez ahead of his second operation, sharing a picture of the two captioned: “Stay strong warrior”.
