Lisandro Martinez could be forced to undergo second operation to correct foot injury

Lisandro Martinez may require a second operation to correct the foot injury that ended his 2022/2023 campaign prematurely, as per Sky Sports.

The defender returned to action at the beginning of the season after being out of action since April, when he initially sustained the metatarsal fracture and underwent surgery.

However, Martinez was withdrawn early during Manchester United’s away clash with Arsenal on September 3 after feeling soreness in his foot. He did feature against Bayern Munich, but proceeded to miss the following two games, against Burnley and Crystal Palace, due to the injury being aggravated.

It was confirmed on Friday that the Argentine would be overseeing an extended layoff, with reports suggesting it could last around two-to-three months.

Martinez may need second operation

Sky Sports reports that medical staff at Old Trafford are assessing the player’s condition to determine the most suitable way for him to recover. Another operation has been outlined as a potential solution.

He joins an ever-growing injury list for Erik ten Hag; Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are also long-term absentees.
