Marcus Rashford has been heavily criticised for his recent performances for Manchester United, with the club having just sustained their fifth loss in all competitions.
The England international is on the back of his most prolific campaign to date, having netted 30 goals for the first time in his career last term. He was named the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year after his sensational contributions across the season.
He has struggled to replicate such form after the summer though, and has found the back of the net just once in seven appearances – in United’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal on September 3.
Now, at a time when the general feeling around the club has turned awry, players must step up to the challenge and prove why they deserve to start each week.
Ten Hag rallies his squad
Erik ten Hag retains the belief that the forward will come good as the season progresses. He said following today’s defeat (via Laurie Whitwell): “It will come but it’s not coming automatic. He has to invest a lot, the team has to invest a lot around him. Today we were in good positions but we made the wrong decisions.”
