Manchester United are gearing up for the second instalment of their double-header against Crystal Palace this Saturday.
The Red Devils reigned victorious the first time around with a 3-0 win to book their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, in which they’ll face Newcastle United, but will now be hoping to see out a similar scoreline in the Premier League meeting.
As for Erik ten Hag’s options, he was boosted midweek by the return of both Raphael Varane and Mason Mount. The latter only played until half-time but it was confirmed after the game that the substitution was pre-planned and not due to any fitness concerns.
Lisandro Martinez missed his second consecutive game with what’s believed to be foot pain. He was reportedly ‘pushing’ to be included in the matchday squad but was ultimately not deemed fit enough. His current status is unknown.
Reds trio could return for Palace
Midfield duo Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen were ruled out with illnesses, while Sergio Reguilon was also absent. The trio will be assessed prior to kick-off on Saturday to determine their involvement, as per Manchester Evening News.
The report also states that Kobbie Mainoo is continuing his recovery from an ankle injury and his highly-anticipated comeback could be after the mid-October international break, as the club want to allow him ample time to reach match fitness.
