Owen Hargreaves names two key Manchester United players for Bayern Munich clash

Not many footballers are blessed enough to have played for Manchester United and Bayern Munich. Owen Hargreaves won the Champions League with both.

The former England international is not the world’s most popular football pundit, however he does know a thing or two about playing for both United and Bayern Munich.

Erik ten Hag face a tough test when they travel to the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night, and he is hoping for a reaction from the players who came up short in the 3-1 win over Brighton at the weekend.

We all know we’re up against Germany’s best side that strengthened their attack in the summer after signing Harry Kane from Tottenham.

Speaking to Bayern Munich’s club website, Hargreaves admitted Kane’s arrival helps make the the Bundesliga champions overwhelming favourites. He also names Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes as United’s two key players going into the game.

Hargreaves said: “Bayern are certainly favourites at home, especially after signing Harry Kane. But United are obviously still a threat.

“They’ve got a quality attack: Marcus Rashford is a great counter-attacking player, Bruno Fernandes plays brilliant balls in behind, so United have a lot of chances. However, if Bayern are in their normal form, I expect them to win the match at home.”

Hargreaves still believes United can do enough in the group stages to reach the knockout rounds. Copenhagen and Galatasaray are the two other clubs that await us in Group A.

“When Bayern and Manchester United were drawn as the first two names, it looked hefty at first.

“It became immediately clear that it would be a tough group. I think everyone knows that Bayern are currently in better form than United. But at the end of the day, both teams are the favourites in the group and I expect them both to qualify for the next round.”
