Antony has been dropped from the Brazil squad after domestic violence allegations surfaced regarding the Manchester United winger and his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin.

Evidence, including pictures and WhatsApp messages, showcasing the alleged incidents has also circulated on social media.

CBF announced: “In light of the facts which came to light on Monday (04/09) concerning Manchester United player Antony, which must be investigated, and in order to safeguard the alleged victim, the player, the Brazilian national team and the CBF, the organization informs that the athlete has been removed from the Brazilian national team.”

Greater Manchester Police also confirmed this evening that they are now investigating the accusations against the 23-year-old footballer. Their statement reads: “Greater Manchester Police is aware of the allegations made and enquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this report. We will not be commenting any further at this time.”

Cavallin’s reported incidents

DJ and influencer Cavallin says that in June 2022, Antony put her in a car and threatened to throw her out of the vehicle that was moving at a high speed. On January 15, she alleges that one of his vicious attacks led to her having a cut on her head and a dislocated breast implant.

“I don’t remember exactly who the fight was about, but it was someone I had been with years ago,” Cavallin said. “He punched me in the chest and my silicone [implant] turned over. Then I came to Brazil for surgery to change the prosthesis. He said: ‘I didn’t mean to hurt you, it was accidental, it wasn’t a punch, I just pushed you, I just held you against the wall.’”

Cavallin documented the final incident that happened on May 8; the player attempted to hit her with a glass and amid her self-defence, her finger was cut open. She subsequently returned to her native Brazil, with Antony, at this stage, playing for United and living in England.

“On that last day [May 8], it was very serious,” she told UOL. “Antony locked the door of the house and wouldn’t let me go out, and I had my finger open, all hurt. He broke my things and took my passport. His mother and stepfather even trapped him inside the football court, he had a football court inside his living room, surrounded by a fence. He was upset, trying to get out of the court in any way, throwing a football at me, throwing a cell phone at me. He said he was going to kill me, that he was going to kill himself.”

Whether or not United will follow suit and suspend Antony remains to be seen, but after their notorious and shoddy handling of Mason Greenwood’s planned reintegration, fans will have low expectations of the Old Trafford outfit.
