Manchester United’s initial offer to sign Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina has been rejected.
The Reds are trying to structure a loan deal for the 27-year-old midfielder due to the club’s financial fair play situation.
According to The Athletic, Fiorentina rejected a proposal that included a fixed loan fee payable in two €1 million instalments.
United also wanted to include a break clause, which may be the reason Fiorentina said no. The break clause, effective in January, would come prior to the second €1m instalment.
Ultimately, that means Fiorentina would only be guaranteed €1m from the deal.
This means talks are likely to rumble on, but the deadline for transfers is this Friday and United can’t afford to drag their heels.
Amrabat is a player that could play alongside or provide cover for Casemiro. He impressed for Morocco at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and has been a target for United ever since.
The club have been linked with other midfielders too, including Ryan Gravenberch and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Figures at the may use FFP as an excuse when we know the real reason behind United’s financial mess it Glazernomics.
