Lyon defender Nicolas Tagliafico emerges as Manchester United target

Manchester United are considering a number of short-term options to address the injury crisis at left-back, including Lyon’s Nicolas Tagliafico.

With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both ruled out with injuries, Erik ten Hag could opt to give opportunities to Alvaro Fernandez but it sounds like we could make moves before Friday’s transfer deadline.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United are still discussing the best options available for a new left-back.

Nicolas Tagliafico at Olympique Lyon has become the latest left-back to be linked with a move to Old Trafford. The Argentina joins Marc Cucurella, Marcos Alonso and Sergio Reguilon on United’s transfer radar.

Having played for Ajax between 2018-2022, Erik ten Hag knows Tagliafico, but it remains to be seen if he is the preferred choice.

The 30-year-old has a contract at Lyon until 2025, but he will be cheaper than some of the other left-backs linked to United.

This also raises questions about whether Fernandez should be given a chance. If he doesn’t get game time at United now, when will he?
