Barcelona star left mulling over two-year contract proposal from Manchester United – report

Manchester United have reportedly submitted a two-year contract offer to Marcos Alonso, as per Spanish outlet Marca.

The terms of the proposal are believed to be an initial season-long loan until his contract expires in 2024 – when United will then sign him as a free agent on a 12-month deal.

Alonso, 32, is currently mulling over the tabled offer and Barcelona are allowing him to make his own decision. Reports have suggested that he was keen to stay with the Catalan giants but, of course, anything could happen from now until the Friday deadline.

United seeking stop-gap coverage in Shaw’s absence

United have identified Alonso as a potential stop-gap signing to fill in for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia; the two are currently sidelined with long-term injuries and are the only senior left-back options at the club. Marc Cucurella of Chelsea and Sergio Reguilon of Tottenham Hotspur are also on the shortlist.

Erik ten Hag opted to play Diogo Dalot out of position on the left flank during United’s win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, rather than calling on 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez, who is yet to make a senior appearance with the club.
