Qataris to complete full £6bn Manchester United takeover by mid-October

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has seemingly won the race to take over Manchester United, as per The Sun.

The latest report suggests that the Qataris will complete a full £6 billion acquisition of the 20-time English champions by mid-October, with a formal announcement coming as soon as next month.

Al Thani has beaten Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the race, who was willing to keep the Glazer siblings on in some capacity before buying out their shares entirely after a few years.

The sale would see the Glazers’ controversial 18-year reign come to an end after countless protests by the Old Trafford faithful to have them removed from their beloved club.

The Americans did reportedly want to remain in some capacity but were warned that the severe backlash would be too much to take from supporters.

Having bought United for £800 million in 2005, they will depart with a more than comfortable profit in their pockets – and leave their debts behind.

Sheikh Jassim’s investment plans

Neil Custis’ update adds: “The servicing of that debt has since cost United over £1bn. And their last financial figures showed that the gross debt is £725m — the highest it has been since 2010.
Sheikh Jassim will wipe that out to save on any further fees and not take any dividend payments from the club, like the Glazers did.

“He also plans to upgrade both Old Trafford and the club’s Carrington training ground, while continuing the investment in the team.”
