Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal to sell Noam Emeran to Dutch side FC Groningen.

The 20-year-old winger impressed during pre-season, but it makes sense to sell if Emeran is not part of Erik ten Hag’s plans. Especially when there’s an opportunity for him to develop — at a high standard in the Netherlands — with regular first team football elsewhere.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United have agreed to sell Emeran to Groningen but we’ve also included a sell-on clause in the deal.

Emeran joined United at the age of 16 from French side Amiens four years ago, but it now looks like he will make his senior breakthrough elsewhere.

It remains to be seen how much United will make on a deal for Emeran, but it sounds like Ten Hag is using his contacts in the Netherlands to shift on players he doesn’t require.

Either that or wait for John Murtough to pull something out of the hat.

When you look at how Angel Gomes has become a star at Lille after coming through United’s academy, it makes sense that other young players want to follow in the same footsteps if they opportunities are limited.

  1. Another false economy while the wingers we have fail to dazzle so much for the emphasis on youth that’s gone out of the window in this transfer window £8 million for a young keeper and looking at a £51 million replacement i sometimes despair of our transfer strategy
