Manchester United set to axe Mason Greenwood after backlash from fans

Manchester United are on the verge of performing a dramatic U-turn by getting rid of Mason Greenwood.

The Sun claims Manchester United have changed their mind on brining back Mason Greenwood after the club faced backlash from fans.

Greenwood, 21, has been suspended by United since January 2022 after he was arrested. The club had planned to announce Greenwood’s return on Tuesday — after the Women’s World Cup final — but it sounds like chief executive Richard Arnold has changed his mind.

United’s hierarchy now believe there is no way back for Greenwood, despite suggesting on Wednesday that he would be reintegrated into the squad.

Word about a U-turn initially came from RedNews fanzine editor Barney Chilton and we’ve since heard that the decision to axe Greenwood was made on Friday night.

Arnold received significant backlash on Friday when The Athletic revealed more details behind Manchester United’s plan to bring back Greenwood.

Adam Crafton reported that preparations for Greenwood’s return included an assessment of the expected sentiment of external figures, listing individual football pundits, journalists and politicians. These were categorised into three groups to the effect of “supportive”, “open-minded” or “hostile”. The club shamefully listed a series of domestic abuse charities assumed to be “hostile”.

  1. We are all men and women born from a woman. Mistakes are natural to every human and we all made mistakes. I believe from what he ( Marson) has done and experienced since the charge, he has learnt something not only to him but to many people across the globe.
May authorities give him last chance.

    1. Let’s have it right. We all heard the recording, we all saw the photos. It never went to court but that doesn’t mean he didn’t do it.
Even if he were to come back he wouldn’t be match sharp for months, and even then he will be booed by home and away fans. Imagine that 74000 people simultaneously booing you every time you touch the ball. Best for everyone he moves on

  2. There will be far more supporters upset of Mason does not return to the first team squad. If the club does not reintegrate him I am not sure if it is a club I wish to support anymore, and I have been a supporters for 70 years.

  3. If Mason Greenwood is not brought back into the first team squad with his skill and talent, possibly the best player we have. We will not win anything or even qualify for champions league next season. Look at the rubbish we have bought in, we are miles away from city etc. We don’t have a hope in hell. Also he was not found guilty by the courts but has been fou d guilty by our lefty rainbow kissing media

  4. Man utd must bring back mason greewood to there squad if not united must get a problem in the term pls bring back my player

  5. Who is clean here?
Some of those so called fans have done worse than what Greenwood has done – what is it that can not get reconcilled. To error is human.
Let him play football-don’t spread hate.. color is just skin deep..
There is too much hate in this world

  6. Man united, need to return Greenwood back to club, the guy is a fantastic player, let us not let him go. Please. His good for us fans. Let’s forgve him , as far as his living with his wife okay.

  7. Greenwood was enveloped by youth exorbitant which I know and believe we all passed through at a time in our lives and some of us did even worse. You don’t throw the child away alongside the bath water. African proverbs!.. I believe he will forever be loyal and grateful for the acceptance and forgiveness given to him by both the board and the spectators!.. booing he may get when he begins to play but nothing lasts forever. Whoever says is leaving the club because Mason was accepted back to the club never was a true blooded red devil.. my take

  8. So his partner forgave him and gave him another chance, but the hierarchy at Mighty Manchester United are so disgusted and upset about what he allegedly did that they decided to dump him? I honestly hope that this is fake news! Especially if the decision is coming from people who ran the club to the ground and are making a joke of our beloved club! One thing’s for sure, I was thinking of paying the membership again, but this changed my opinion. The club is becoming the joke of the sporting country under the Glazers! Glazers out, Glazers out, Glazers out!

  9. Those ‘activists’ who seem so concerned about the alleged victim of the abuse-do they really care about her opinion in all this?Have they taken any pains at finding out what her position is in this drama? She is the best person to give us the fairest assessment on the sort of person Mason is & I wonder how many ppl are genuinely interested in hearing her current position in this Greenwood saga.

  10. Man united board and so called the foolish fans that came out to protest against Mason return..are all mad human beings on earth.
Bring guy back to the squad..
