Mason Mount’s brother Lewis has defended the Manchester United star after he became a target for harsh criticism from talkSPORT.
The England international made his debut for the Reds in Monday night’s 1-0 win over Wolves at Old Trafford.
Mount started alongside Bruno Fernandes in an advanced midfield role, but the entire midfield — including Casemiro — struggled in the first game of the season.
However, Erik ten Hag said he was happy with Mount’s performance in his post-match press conference.
That didn’t stop talkSPORT from tweeting a list of statistics in attempt to make a mockery of Mount’s first competitive display for United. The post in questions states how Mount didn’t score, assist or create any chances against Wolves.

0 assists
0 chances created
0 crosses
0 tackles won

It goes without saying that the criticism is premature and Mount deserves time to settle at his new club. Unfortunately, though, talkSPORT get most of their engagements from Manchester United inspired posts.
Mount’s brother, Lewis, wasn’t having any of it and called talkSPORT out for being ‘shameful’.
“I’ve tried to let this go all day, but honestly, shame on you talkSPORT,” Lewis wrote on Instagram. “These players, no, these PEOPLE get enough abuse without you adding fuel to the fire. A reminder that he’s had a very successful 18 year career in football, and is a good, kind, human being, more than I can say for some of your ‘reporters’.”

Rawr.
Lewis is spot on, though. Outlets like talkSPORT use players as scapegoats for silly content on social media. The same happened to Phil Jones before Harry Maguire.
