Turkish giants complete deal to sign Manchester United star

Fenerbahce have completed a deal to sign Manchester United midfielder Fred, with the Brazil international putting an end to his five-year stay at Old Trafford.

Fred joined the club from Shakhtar Donetsk in a big-money deal in 2018 and after a challenging first season in the Premier League, he quickly emerged as a regular for the Reds under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Fred’s performances for the Reds earned him a starting place in the Brazil national team in two major tournaments, including last year’s World Cup.

The 30-year-old’s contract was due to expire this summer but he was one of several first-team regulars to have their deals extended by an additional season when clauses were exercised.

This summer, with United continuing to add bodies to their midfield, it looked increasingly likely that Fred would be leaving the club and that has now been confirmed.

Earlier this week, it was announced that United had come to an agreement with Fenerbahce over his transfer and on Sunday afternoon, the club announced that the deal was completed.

The deal was confirmed on the official Manchester United website, with a statement confirming that Fred has undergone a medical with the Turkish giants and agreed personal terms.

In addition to Fred, it is believed that Donny van de Beek could also leave the club before the window shuts at the end of this month.

The Dutchman has endured three tough seasons at the club and Real Sociedad are thought to be keen on his signature. It remains to be seen whether United look to replace Fred and any other midfield departures or if Ten Hag is content with his options in that area.
