Manchester United and Adidas extend partnership until 2035 with lucrative £900m deal

Manchester United and Adidas have agreed to extend their long-term partnership until 2035.

Adidas replaced Nike back in 2015 ahead of the 2015/2016 campaign and have since released some iconic strips for the 20-time English champions.

The new deal is nothing short of lucrative though, as it’s believed to be worth £90 million per season for United, according to Manchester Evening News. This makes Adidas the club’s No.1 source of revenue by some distance.

MEN’s report adds that Champions League football may be crucial in the £900m income, as the first deal meant the club oversaw a reduction in payments if they failed to qualify for Europe’s elite competition in consecutive seasons.

Prior to the 2023/2024 season commencing in a fortnight, United have already overseen record sales for both the men’s and women’s teams, with the new deal promising to focus on the latter as they continue to grow and garner support.

What United and Adidas had to say

United’s Chief Executive Officer Richard Arnold said: “The relationship between Manchester United and adidas is one of the most iconic in world sport, forged through a shared commitment to style, flair and, most importantly, high performance.

“With its roots in the 1980s, our partnership has been reinvented over the past decade with some of the most innovative designs and technology in sportswear. We are now looking forward to refreshing this powerful partnership again through the remainder of this decade and into the 2030s.”

While Adidas CEO Bjorn Gulden added:  “We are extremely proud to announce the extension of the contract with Manchester United. adidas and Manchester United are two of the most important brands in international football and it is very natural for us to continue our cooperation. We will combine tradition and innovation to please both the players and the fans.

“We look forward to continuing our partnership with one of the most iconic clubs in football!”
