20-year-old Manchester United midfielder completes permanent transfer to EFL club

Charlie Savage has completed a permanent move from Manchester United.

The 20-year-old has joined Reading on a four-year deal, ending his 15-year association with the Red Devils.

There is a sell-on clause included in the transfer and United can match any bids that arrive for him in the future.

Savage penned a heartfelt statement expressing his gratitude to the club, staff and fans for their efforts and support throughout his development over the past decade-and-a-half.

Having been at the club since he was five years old, the Welshman progressed through the ranks at Carrington to eventually earn his first-team debut in December 2021 during a Champions League clash against Young Boys.

Savage’s senior career

Last season, Savage departed midway through the campaign to join Forest Green Rovers on loan – his first loan spell since signing a professional contract – and he registered his first-ever senior goal for the League One outfit.

He’ll now return to the division due to Reading’s relegation last term but will undoubtedly gain crucial and pivotal experience as he embarks on his new venture away from United.
